GREEN ACADEMIC
You self identify as someone who cares about the health of the Earth, as well as the health of your family. You try to keep informed and learn the ins and outs of issues, so you can make decisions that have the least impact possible. You think its important to exercise cautions in protecting ecosystems and future generations, and take the threat of global warming seriously.
Which celebs share your personality? Al Gore, Laurie David and Edward Norton
Asteeg no? hehehe. You can take the same test here: Whats your Green Personality?

With the season to be merry and eat (A LOT for most of us), we can still maintain that figure and avoid those killer diseases if we will watch what we put inside our mouth. As someone once said, what we eat is what we are. Here is a page from YAHOO where you can find interesting topics on organic living and even food gift suggestions that are quick to prepare.
We wish you healthy holidays!
This is horrible. I hope it won’t happen here in our country.

Surprise! Five things you can’t recycle
By Lori Bongiorno Posted Mon Oct 6, 2008 5:08pm PDT
Pizza boxes
Most of us feel less guilty when we toss something in the bin headed for the recycling plant rather than the landfill. Turns out, though, wishful thinking may do more harm than good. If you include some items that aren’t recyclable, you run the risk of your entire batch being shipped off to the nearest dump.
The best thing you can do is educate yourself about local recycling rules. In the meantime here’s the short list of common items that don’t belong in the recycling bin, no matter what your zip code:
* Pizza boxes. The oil from pizza can contaminate cardboard boxes, making it impossible to process them into clean paper.
* Napkins and paper towels. It’s not the paper goods themselves that present a problem, but the fact that they’re typically used to wipe up food, cleaning products, and other “hazardous waste.”
* Sticky notes. Their size, color, and the adhesive strip make them a better bet for the trash bin.
* Plastic caps. Curbside programs won’t recycle them, but Aveda collects them and turns them into packaging for new products.
* Wet paper. Paper fibers that have been exposed to water are shorter and therefore less valuable to paper mills, making it unprofitable to collect and recycle.
Figuring out which plastics you can recycle is often confusing. It’s generally well known that most curbside programs only take plastics labeled #1 and #2 on the bottom, but many people are shocked to hear that shape sometimes plays a role. For example, many communities don’t accept tubs (mouth wider than base), but will take bottles (base wider than mouth) even if the numbers are the same because these plastics are manufactured differently, says Darby Hoover of the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Check in with your local waste or sanitation department to find out what the specific rules are in your area. You can also log onto http://www.earth911.org/ for a wealth of recycling information from helpful articles to its extensive database where you can type in your zip code for a listing of local resources.

Dating ideas
By Huddler’s Green Home Posted Fri Oct 10, 2008 10:55am PDT
Looking for something more environmentally friendly than your typical dinner-and-a-movie date? Here are several green ideas:
Bare feet at a picnic (iStockPhoto)
Pick up your date in something other than a car
Tandem bicycles or Rollerblades are a fun green way to get around. For bikes, check your local rental shop. Rollerblades can often be found at secondhand stores. Be sure to bring a backpack to carry spare shoes!
Skip the store-bought cut flowers
They are covered in pesticides, and won’t last more than a week or two. If you really want to give a token of your affection, consider a potted plant, or flowers picked from your own garden. Or bring some fresh, local, organic produce! Nothing says “love” like strawberries.
Consider an outdoors date
* Long walks along the beach (or lake, or river) are romantic, free, and non-polluting.
* Check out what events are being held by your local state parks. Some parks even offer rental equipment (canoes, skis, etc).
* Think about packing a picnic using Pyrex dishes to store the food, and real plates, silverware, and glasses that can be taken home to be washed afterward. Local food and organic winewill definitely set the mood.
Think about staying in
* No transportation needed!
* Turn the lights off for a candlelit dinner.
* Cook with local, in-season ingredients.
* Pretend you’re old-school and woo your date with poetry, or perform a little serenade on that dusty guitar.
* Get a little crazy and play board games!
* If the weather permits and if you have a backyard, get cozy in a two-person hammock.
